UOHoC Chat Log Posted Feb 13 2004 2:33PM CST (GMT -06:00) The log to this month's (Thursday, February 12) UO House of Commons chat has been posted. The topic of the chat was: General Discussion.
Lord-Xanthor - *Du_Hast_Cooper* Are there any plans to improve the party and/or guild systems? Fertbert - We have some high priority fixes tentatively scheduled for pub 24... we intend to make guild maintenance easier by improving the guildstone interface a bit.... Fertbert - We're hoping to address the problems with removing/promoting members of large guilds, and also make it easier to manage large guild alliance lists. You can read the complete log of the chat by clicking here! You can find more information about these chats at: http://uohoc.stratics.com/
On the UO Latest Updates forum, Sannio (Community Relations) nixed another rumor about UO’s demise.
Question: My hubby started playing UO over 4 years ago, and ended up getting the family all hooked. About 6 months ago, he (and only he) quit UO and moved over to SWG. He just asked me how much longer the UO servers would be up and when I asked him what he was talking about, he said he'd heard OSI was coming out with a different version of UO that wasn't compatible with what we now play. When I said I had no idea, he went on to say well probably 90 days, like the statement on the back of the box says. The statement hhe was referring to is this: " EA reserves the right to terminate the Ultima Online service after 90 days notice."
So my question is this: Should we brace ourselves for an announcement of this type, or start saving $ to go to this new "version" he referred to?
He wouldn't say where he got this tidbit of info, (for all I know he made it up) but he's commented several times about former OSI programmers moving to SWG.
Answer: Ultima Online isn't going anywhere. Your husband probably heard about Origin's new upcoming game, Ultima X: Odyssey. We're still making plans here for next week, next month, next year, and beyond.
Regarding OSI programmers mowing to SWG, well, the MMOG biz is still pretty small. People sometimes move back and forth between projects. Still, I can trump that "OSI programmers moving to SWG" statement: SunSword worked on UO in the early days, went to work on SWG, then happily came back here to become our Producer. ;} ========= Keith "Sannio" Quinn Community Relations Ultima Online (www.uo.com) Origin Systems
The Council of HONOR meeting was called to order at 12:00 noon. Members in attendance were Emperor Logan, Magistrate Kodo, Senator of Arcane Earwen, Senator of War Akroma, Senator of Genesis Lora De Blood, and Head of State Kaatya. A quorum was declared and the meeting proceeded.
UNIFORMS At the suggestion of Senator Akorma and with the full agreement of those present, it was decided to open the floor to discussion of this topic before any Resolution was formed.
Senator Akroma recommended that we adhere to the color patterns established in the past and that the ceremonial attire for Senators be a white or purple robe with colored cloaks signifying the house each Senator represented and that each Senator carry a similar staff. She noted that it has become almost impossible to do the armor.
Senator Lora agreed on the ceremonial garb but stated that a sash and apron should always be worn. If the attire does not allow sash, it should at least be carried with you.
Emperor Logan stated that only a doublet or a surcoat block the wearing of a sash. So the uniform should be a robe, apron, cloak of house color, and sash of house color. The sash will be hidden by the robe which is why the cloak should be of the house color.
Senator Earwen suggested a white robe, apron, cloak, sash, and staff for ceremonial purposes, with the non-ceremonial attire set as sash and apron.
Emperor Logan received an urgent call for his assistance. The formal proceedings were suspended until he could return. During his absence, the Council members discussed combinations for the uniforms and tried on several samples, including new colors for some Senate houses. The meeting was called back to order upon the return of Emperor Logan.
After viewing the Senators in differing forms of attire, Emperor Logan entered a Resolution to amend the Codex to set the ceremonial uniform of Senators as a white robe, cloak of house color, purple half apron, sash of house color, hat of house color, and a staff. Senator Lora seconded his motion.
Kaatya asked what type of staff the Emperor had in mind. Senator Lora mentioned the carrying of a scepter rather than a staff.
Emperor Logan commented that scepters signified royalty, kings. He felt it not appropriate for the Senators to carry one. Emperor Logan amended his Resolution to specify an energy black staff be carried as part of the ceremonial uniform. Senator Lora seconded the motion and a vote was taken. All Senators voted Aye, the Head of State voted Nay. The motion passed with better than a 2/3 majority vote.
Senator Earwen entered a motion that the color for the House of Arcane be changed to charcoal and that the color for the House of Genesis be changed to dark blue. Senator Lora seconded this motion.
Senator Akroma noted that black is the color of the House of Espionage and that there might be a conflict with these colors being too similar to each other.
Senator Lora agreed with Akroma's point and stated she would find another color for Genesis.
Senator Earwen then withdrew her motion until the next Council of HONOR meeting.
Emperor Logan entered a motion to delay the selection of House colors until the next meeting. Senator Lora seconded his motion, the motion carried with unanimous vote of approval.
Emperor Logan advised that those seeking new colors to find one that ties into the House's skill set.
GUILD LORE Emperor Logan made a motion to appoint Colin Mor as the guild's official Lore Keeper because of his vast knowledge of guild and shard lore. Senator Lora seconded this motion.
Kaatya spoke in support of a Council member being named to work with Colin Mor on this project.
Emperor Logan amended his motion to appoint Senator Earwen to partake in this endeavor with Colin Mor. Senator Lora seconded the amended motion and it carried with a unanimous vote of approval.
Emperor Logan commented that he wold like to see a minimum of one Lore topic a month on the Forums, old stories revisited, etc. More than one monthly would be even better.
There being no further discussion, the meeting was adjourned at 2:00 p.m.
The Council of HONOR meeting was called to order at 8:00 pm. Members in attendance were Emperor Logan, Magistrate Kodoz, Senator of Arcane Earwen, Senator of War Akroma, Senator of Genesis Lora De Blood, and Head of State Kaatya. A quorom was declared and the meeting proceeded.
APPOINTMENT OF HERALD Emperor Logan entered the following motion: In the filling of the Herald position, I propose that the Head of State Kaatya be named Herald with the alternate being Earwen. Only one will post the minutes and they will be logged under the News Section of our ethereal boards.
The motion was seconded by Lora De Blood and received a unanimous vote of approval with no discussion.
MEETING SCHEDULE Senator Earwen offered the following motion: I propose that we conduct meetings every two weeks and that each member be polled by the Chair beforehand as to the days they are available to hold this meeting and the day with the best attendance be chosen.
The motion was seconded by Lora De Blood and received a unanimous vote of approval after discussion by the Council members.
SENATOR OF ESPIONAGE Senator Akroma made the following motion: I propose that we table this until we have a suitable candidate.
The motion was seconded by Logan and received a unanimous vote of approval with no discussion.
GUILD MEETINGS Emperor Logan entered the following motion: I request the following be adopted at all weekly guild meetings: ......1) Meetings will begin promptly at 7:00 pm Eastern time. There will be no waiting for stragglers. ......2) No side chatter; Guardians are to use party system or ICQ. ......3) Guardians wishing to speak will raise their hands and wait for recognition from the leader of the meeting before speaking. Once recognized, the Guardian will move to the center aisle to speak. The Guardian will *yield* when done speaking. ......4) There will be no spell casting, sparring, or other disruptive behavior during the meeting. ......5) The meetings will be limited to one hour in duration if at all possible.
The motion was seconded by Lora De Blood and received a unanimous vote of approval after discussion by the Council members.
ALLIANCES Emperor Logan entered the following motion: I motion that Kaatya and Sojourn spearhead the efforts towards rebuilding our alliance with VK and they make new motions to ally with A^E. The terms of alliance I leave open to discussion. Just keep in mind that first and foremost, their beliefs and the beliefs of their allies should hold close to ours.
The motion was seconded by Lora De Blood and received a unanimous vote of approval after discussion by the Council members.
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT Emperor Logan offered the following: I motion this Council for the following: All existing guild resources be counted and documented. Once a sufficient storage spot has been agreed upon, all resources will be moved to this one location. All resources stored at this facility will be placed in ways that anyone can add to the piles, thus ending the need to pass along the items to several members. A monthly update will be posted on the forums like our Quartermasters Report. That way, everyone knows what is there. I ask that two Council members be allowed to access the items; one being the Senator of Trades, the other being the Senator of War. The Trades Senator will be responsible for all duties concerning resources with the one exception of the Senator of War issuing out the new recruit bags.
Discussion: Senator Lora De Blood: I agree that it should be put where everyone can easily donate. I see no reason why everyone on the Council should not have access to it. I will co-own everyone to the "Treasury" building formerly owned by Logan.
Senator Earwen: Regarding distribution, I think a fair market value should be assigned to resources and offered for sale to the guild members with the proceeds used to fund guild properties.
Head of State Kaatya: Logan, do you accept these amendments to your motion?
Emperor Logan: Each member of Senate will be allowed access to resources. Any funds procured from the selling of resources shall be used to help the guild endeavors, e.g. guild houses, website, and the Emperor/Senate account fund.
The amended motion was seconded by Lora De Blood and further discussion ensued.
Head of State Kaatya: I am not in favor of accepting donated resources and then selling them back to our members. Rather, I would like a percentage of our resources put on vendors for sale to the general public.
Senator Earwen: The Codex calls for gems to be donated and I think we need to encourage people to loot the gems on their kills and donate them to the guild. I just want us to help with guild costs.
Senator Lora De Blood: I told Borg to sell gems to help cover guild costs, but I agree with collecting and donating gems.
Senator Akroma: I have a large cache of gems I've been saving. Borg mentioned that he wanted us to use the Toy Shoppe as a vendor location. With that in mind, why not use that as our storehouse as well.
Emperor Logan: The Trades house is right behind Toy Shoppe. Let's use Trades for storage. Borg owns the Toy Shoppe (response to question from Kaatya).
Emperor Logan: I amend my motion to not sell resources to Guardians, to use a percentage of our resources on vendors, to use the Trades house for storage, to use the Toy Shoppe for vendors, and to dedicate the proceeds to cover guild costs.
The amended motion was seconded by Akroma and received a unanimous vote of approval.
Having reached the two hour time limit, it was decided that the topics of Uniforms and Guild Lore would be placed on the next agenda. The meeting was adjourned at 10:00 pm.

The Shadowclan Orc guild of Catskills shard is interested in putting together a long term plot. It requires many pieces, and this is the first. While we greatly appreciate current Shadowclan members creating new characters for the plot, we are more appreciative of new players creating the enslaved orcs to interact with already established characters.
If you are someone who regularly plays on another shard, you are absolutely encouraged to try out Catskills through this plot. You do not need to have any resource for armor, weapons, or entertainment, as Shadowclan will provide all that your character needs. Come share in a diverse shard of role playing.
To create an orc for this plot, remember to play your character as an escaped and formerly enslaved orc that has recently arrived at the Shadowclan Orc Fort. Look for other characters who are created for this piece of the plot and interact with them as though you know them. We need someone to take the initiative and play the orc who led the escape.
Create your character following the directions on this web site: http://www.shadowclan.org/catskills/gruntee.htm . It is recommended that you mention the enslaved orc background somewhere in your character's profile.
Take your newly created character to the Shadowclan Orc Fort in Yew Trammel, pass the simple test and role play out your travels and background, and then enjoy! We will have a meeting Friday, January 30th at 8pm EST/5pm PST at the Shadowclan Orc Fort to lead the first attempt at revenge. The next steps you will be informed of as we progress
Tell us what you want in the next UO! Jan 21 2004 11:29AM CST (GMT -06:00) Are you a current or former Ultima Online subscriber? Do you live in the San Francisco area? Do you want to tell the Origin team what they should do with the next Ultima Online project? Now’s your chance!
Origin, through a contracted research firm, will be conducting focus groups on Feb. 4 and 5 in Sunnyvale, CA (near San Francisco and San Jose). There will be six groups, with 10 to 12 people in each.
The groups, about 90 minutes each, will discuss what they like and don’t like about UO. They will also be asked to comment on new ideas.
Participants will be paid $100, and they will have to sign a legally binding non-disclosure agreement. That means they won’t be allowed to discuss anything they see or hear during the group sessions under penalty of law.
If you are interested in participating, call Nichols Research at 1-408-773-8200, ext. 2020, or email erecruiting@nicholsresearch.com. Mention “Project #C3032” when you contact them.
It’s important that we get current AND former players, so if you’ve stopped playing UO, please contact us anyway.
TheFellowship- if i placed my house yesterday to save the spot but i can enlarge it greatly, do i have to wait my 7 days to demolish the house and replace? MrTact-No. When you remove your last house, it removes the 7-day timer limitation
Lord-Xanthor Aedilwulf-What is the current status with addressing critical guildstone bugs for guilds over 150 members? (Inability to Kick/Title members)? Can we expect to see these addressed in an upcoming publish? And what is the timing? Evocare- We're making a legitimate attempt at scheduling it for pub24, although there are no guarantees until QA has signed off on it
Lord-Xanthor Thomas-Can we have an update on the status of the remaining Virtues? How far along in development are they and which one(s) are we likely to see first? Evocare- Some have gotten pretty far into development only to get postponed due to their heavy testing and long-term implications that being said, we're evaluating what the "right" scope for the remaining virtues are, and how they'll best fit into defining UO, especially in light of UXO, which is very heavily virtue oriented
Lord-Xanthorbuster- There have been hints of a possible cap to a player's 'faster casting' - as it is, fc4 is ridiculously overpowered, and generally unobtainable for most, especially in PvP. Do you intend to change this system, and if so when? Evocare-yes, after having listened to many different views on the subject, i've pretty much decided to go with caps on some of the key pvp-related magic properties Evocare- i believe we can ensure that magic items/artifacts are still desireable, but don't have the dominant effect on outcome that they have today
Lord-Xanthor Adamantyr- Are there plans to introduce bulk order deeds for other craft skills, such as cooking? On that note, are there any plans to make food a more vital component of the game, such as the necessity of eating to survive, creating exceptional food items, adding glass mugs and other paraphernalia to the tinkering lists, etc.?
Evocare-as we've stated in the past, there definitely is a desire on the dev team to add bods for other craft skills although cooking is probably less likely to get them as soon as carpentry/bowcraft/tinker for example we are interested in having cooking become more useful in UO however, we're not likely to force players to eat to keep their characters from dying no wait, we're not just "not likely" to do that, we're just flat out not gonna do that we'd much prefer to see eating be something you'd like to do, then something you have to do we get the "have to" part already from reality ;]
Lord-Xanthordrewniu-In one of the previous chats it was stated that not being able to steal containers is a confirmed bug. In the next one it was said that it's a designed feature. What caused the change and can we expect any change in that matter? Thank you. MrTact- It is *not* a bug It is, in fact, a solution to the problem of blessed or insured items in containers. We have contemplated other solutions to the problem but we don't plan to pursue them right at this moment. Final answer.
Lord-Xanthor Garaba-Any Fixes to the Golem bugs on the short term radar? Evocare- not that I know of offhand, sorry =[ there may be some that will be scheduled soon, but i honestly don't know for sure off the top of my head
Lord-Xanthorfect|afk- Alot of us that have been playing for a long time, would like to see a shard that is based off of Pre-Ren. Do you see OSI ever pubslishing a shard with that sort of a rule-set? MrTact- Right now there are no plans to do a pre-uor shard. What we are doing is looking at gameplay from back in the day (especially pvp) and seeing what about it makes players yearn for that ruleset. Then we want to take what we learn and use it to improve the game as it stands today.
Lord-XanthorKtorr- Are there any plans to adjust certain perceived imbalances with Skills. ie. Poisoning is one of the most difficult and expensive skills to gain, but can be countered with 0 skill by using a single potion, and 20.1 in tracking seems a bit low to allow someone to find a player with GM stealth ? Evocare- There are a lot of plans to balance all sorts of things with different skills. Those plans are very far-reaching and include scrutinizing every skill in the game (poisoning included obviously) However, I wouldn't expect to see any changes to that in the next publish or two, it's longer term then that
Lord-XanthorDerek_-There has been some discussion recently about sightings of counselors and rumors with a possible connection to the E.M. Program, is there any truth to this and/or is any thought being given to bring back the volunteer program? Sannio-I don't know yet why a Counselor was supposedly sighted, but I do know that there are no plans to recreate the volunteer program, and Counselors will not be a part of any future Event Moderator team
Lord-Xanthor UOnuts- Question: Is there anything, such as Auto Loot Distribution, planned to stop script looting, especially at Doom Gauntlet? MrTact-I believe we are to the point where we have decided that we *are* going to do auto loot distribution, but we haven't even started design on it atm. As such, I couldn't say when to expect that.
Lord-XanthorUOnuts-Please ask this question: any chance to make any change to archery in near future? Evocare-i'll be looking at basic damage over time values for archery in pub24, although I can't say for sure yet if and how much it would change
Lord-Xanthor Thomas- At present, what's the planned focus for each of the next three publishes? MrTact- Well, since I've already been skewered for this on the boards . . . Pub 23 is going to be almost entirely character transfer Pub 24 is in the planning stages atm . . . we have already mentioned a couple of things we are looking at for that pub Pub 25 isn't even a gleam in anyone's eye yet. Most likely, by the time we get to pub 25, some very interesting things will have happened, so it would be hard to even guess right now.
Lord-XanthorGhostface- Why is a system as enormous as luck not a priority to put effort into when it's been admitted that its nowhere near up to par. People dont expect good items all the time but we do expect not to get junk all the time. Also can you fix it so people with Vamp Embrace on can mount steeds you have to get on then recast it :< Evocare- I believe MrTact has been planning on going over luck to resolve whether there are bugs that cause the percieved problems or whether its the case of the design needing changes to make sure it works the way players feel it should When exactly that might happen I don't know with any degree of certainty MrTact-I posted extensively in this thread the other day: http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/uo/show...v&selv=&vwhich= That is everything I know about the current situation with loot and luck
Lord-Xanthorxcelsior- Can we have soulstones somewhere around pub 35? Evocare- i hope so... I had originally hoped they would go in with AoS so, I'm still a big fan of doing soulstones, it's just a question of fidning a time to do them
Lord-XanthorM.C. -Items decay extremely fast now (both weapons and armor), and repairing a barely damaged weapon even at 120+ skill results in a max.durability penalty very often. Are there any plans to tone down the rate of item decay? MrTact-Not right now. I would say now we are at the "wait and see" stage.
Lord-XanthorRed_Falcon- I was just wondering if the dev team will fix the lamp room in doom so people cannot logout in there and stop them from exploiting to get the lamps and gloves. MrTact- Now that the team has grown somewhat, we are going to be dividing up into groups to focus on live and . . . other stuff
Lord-Xanthorunified -Is it at all possible for there to be a mechanism to allow players to see the autual numerical value of fame, karma, and virtue they have acheived. It's confusing getting "you have gained a little fame" or "you have lost a lot of fame" when there is no way to actually know where you are. MrTact-Yeah we feel that the status gump is too small, so we're going to be making it a lot bigger so we can add that stuff. JK There are UI enhancements planned for the future, and it's possible that we may elect to make those stats less obscure. Evocare- what? you want real information about your character?
Lord-XanthorAdamantyr-At the moment, a locked down item can't be used or picked up. This is well, but if you lock down a container, such as a mug, you can't drink from it. This means you can't really operate a tavern unless you have cutletry you don't mind losing to thieves. Can a new level of lockdown be made so items can be usable but not takable? MrTact- Actually, it is possible to make a class of locked down items usable. We had a real problem with this after AoS where a lot of item types that had to be used when locked down couldn't be . . . (Can you say "plants"? Sure you can." The fix we did for that stuff can be done for other item types as well. When you come across stuff like this, please forward it to the bug box. We want to get bugs like this on the schedule because they are relatively easy to fix.
Lord-Xanthor Dryzzid- Also, do mages gain the bonus FC1 effects from an equipped weapon? I see some people using programs to rearm between each spell? If so, is there any way to fix that? Evocare- yep, planning on fixing that cheaters! hopefully with the next round of balance changes mages won't feel compelled to cheat ;]
Lord-Xanthor uocoriantum- I'm wondering if UO plans on introducing more rare items into the game? Maybe some "mid-level" rares would be nice--especially mage rares! Evocare- sure, adding stuff for people to find is definitely something we plan on doing =]
Lord-Xanthor [Garaba] Whats with all of Mr. Tact's jokes these days. Is he like this at the office. Evocare-as a matter of fact, he's *exactly* like that at the office... i think his wife must be deaf hoho
Lord-Xanthor- Did the Dev Team attend any good IDOCs? What did you loot? Evocare- I got all of Adrick's stuff that newblar... Sannio-I picked up a few things here and there. As I mentioned on the UO Stratics boards, I mostly picked up plants, but some statues, ingots, boards, and miscellaneous wearables. It took a long while and a bit of luck, but I was also able to place a small marble tower. MrTact- I was crunching. Plus I thought it was a little unethical for a dev team member ---Sannio pokes MrTact---
Lord-Xanthorwilki24- Are their any plans for a new client to be released in the near future? If so, can you shed some details about it? MrTact- New client? Whatever gave you that idea?
Lord-Xanthor I would like to thank everyone for coming tonight! And thanks to all of the OSI folks for spending their personal time talking to us Please join #ultima-online for continued, unmoderated chat the log will be posted shortly at http://uohoc.stratics.com THANKS ---Waves to everyone---
Farewell to the King Rourke, Town Cryer Guildmaster Dec 19 2003 11:36AM
I report with you now a matter of great significance to all Britannia—to all Sosaria—and I do so with a heavy heart. Truly, this may no longer be news to you. Word has spread quickly throughout the realm that our King, Lord British, has bid his final farewells to Britannia. Many of his subjects were present during his final noble act—
…But, I get ahead of myself. Please, allow me to begin again.
Earlier in the day, the Commander of the Royal Britannian Guard learned that an agent of Minax that had been spied in the Ilshenar facet. Summoning the troops to Castle British, the Commander reasoned that it would be a routine mission for the Royal Guard to investigate.
In tight formation, the guardsmen made their way south from the City of Compassion, to Britain’s moongate. Before they could enter it and cross facets, they were halted by Clainin, royal mage and member of the ruling council of Britannia.
Clainin was in a frantic state, panting and gasping confusing bits of conversation about Lord British and some “final ritual.” After composing himself, the mage begged the Commander to follow, exclaiming insufficiently that “the timing was too early” and that he was going to fetch Dupre to help.
As to why Clainin was in such a panic, the guardsmen were at a loss—all save the Commander, who seemed somehow to follow Clainin’s curious conversation. They only knew, after the royal mage disappeared into the moongate on his way to Felucca, that the Commander hastened them all back toward Britain, to the Chamber of Virtue.
As they entered the Chamber they saw fragments of the legendary Gem of Immortality, shattered long ago when the Stranger defeated Mondain, positioned over the symbols of Virtue. Standing in the center of the Chamber, of equal distance from all the shard-fragments, was Lord British, King of Britannia. Outside the perimeter were close friends and members of the ruling council of Britannia.
A crowd was building in the Chamber of Virtue, and was fluttering with concern and speculation. Some knew that the King was safeguarding several wayward shards, but why were they displayed in such a manner, here, out in the open?
As the crowd calmed, Lord British issued a statement. The shards were in danger—verily, they were in near constant danger. He would bring them to a place where no harm could come to them, nor could anyone use them for evil. He intended to personally bring them into the Void, where they—and each duplicate Sosaria within—would be kept safe. And he would not come back.
Before he did so, Lord British appointed the Commander to a position in the ruling council. For acts of heroism, Virtue, diligence, and leadership, the Commander would now be a leader for all of Britannia. And once this appointment was completed, the King began his mystical ceremony.
Lord British began calling out magical words of power, “Vas Ort Rel Por An Tym!” Curiously-hued moongates had appeared at each symbol of Virtue. One after another, a duplicate Lord British appeared at each moongate and moved to the existing King, each bearing one of the Gem-fragments. And, as each King met, they merged into one being.
When only one Lord British remained, he called out again, “Kal Vas Rel Por,” and a massive black gateway appeared. “In Sanct Por Ort Vas Bet Ylem,” the King commanded, and the gateway opened. Through it, one could see the vast emptiness that was the Void—our King’s destination.
However, before the King could traverse the gateway, evil creatures began appearing and assaulted everyone that had gathered. The Royal Guard quickly put their swords to task, and more than a few of the onlookers were prepared to defend themselves and their King. The battle was quick, chaotic, and furious, but the citizens of Britannia stood their ground, and victory was theirs in the end.
As the tumult settled, Lord British returned to the task at hand. He bid everyone goodbye, said his final farewells, and humbly thanked Britannia for all that it was. Our King approached to the gateway, stepped into the Void with the wayward shards, and was gone.
His was always a cause most noble, but the crowd was heartbroken. Our King was gone, this time most likely forever.
Once upon a time, Lord British gave us direction, and we shall honor his memory by continuing to choose the Virtuous path. We shall respect the sacrifice that our King made not only for us, but for every being on every shard, and shall endeavor to live up to his example. We wish our liege—our former liege well in his travels into the Great Unknown.
Hell Hath No Fury Rourke, Town Cryer Guildmaster Dec 16 2003 4:03PM
Mere days ago it was that Lord British, King of Britannia, did summon his Royal Guard and put to them a quest. They were to meet with the high wizard named Grathinam, and from him they would retrieve an irreplaceable collection of shards from the Gem of Immortality. The guardsmen were to protect these shards until they were once again in our good King’s hands.
Within each fragment of the Gem of Immortality is held a Sosaria that is nearly a duplicate of our own. Hundreds, perhaps thousands of shards were created when the Stranger defeated Mondain and the Gem was shattered, and Lord British sought to retrieve them for a noble purpose of which only he knew.
As instructed, the Commander led the Royal Britannian Guard to the Lycaeum, where Grathinam was known to have safeguarded the precious shards gathered thus far by the Virtuous souls of Britannia. After a brief meeting, the wizard gave the Commander a satchel containing the wayward shards.
The troops prepared to return to Britain and the King, but were interrupted by a strange moongate that appeared on the scene. The aura of Minax stepped out of it, shouting against Lord British, stating that he will see the fruition of his plans.
The aura then lashed out, slaying poor Grathinam. But, as the aura turned to attack the stalwart Commander, our good King appeared and himself defended the leader of the Royal Guard!
During the fracas, Lord British deftly snatched a mysterious glowing artifact from the hand of Minax’s aural self—he later explained that Minax had a device that allowed her astral self to leave Felucca, so long as she continue to hold a wayward shard of her own. Relieved of her shard, the aura became vulnerable to attack, and the battle escalated against the Dark Temptress and her demonic horde, now pouring forth from her unorthodox moongate.
Sometime during the conflagration, the forces of good were able to destroy Minax’s aura, and her demon army quickly fell in the wake of her defeat.
The Commander rallied the Royal Guard back to the Lycaeum, accompanied by Lord British. The King expressed his personal thanks to the Guardsmen for their efforts in defeating Minax. However, something else seemed to weigh heavily ’pon the King’s brow, and the Commander suggested to his forces that they maintain a vigilant readiness over the next few days, in preparation for whatever may come.
